Dear Don,

Sunday, Nov. 17

I wonder how many more Sundays like this I'll have to put in.

Decided to get busy and answer all my letters today. Sometime I just ache to get letters from people but since things have drifted along so-so I've almost lost interest in people or rather think they have in me. That's right Leone - self pity. Oh well you see it's all this way. One has so blooming much time up here to meditate and so little desirable things to take up one’s time that as a result with me I get spells of despondency.

Edythe has been sick and her mother came down and took her to Duluth for treatment. Naturally I miss her. It beats me how I have grown so fond of a person knowing them such a short time. I wish she weren't so young. She has been one life saver for me here in Biwabik but it hardly seems right to become so attached to a person like that or you get so terribly lonesome for them when you leave them. If she doesn't come back after Xmas the days will be pretty long and cold for me.

The flu epidemic is still on. Will probably make up some morning and find myself a victim. The ??? teacher who has been assisting me at the Hospital has it now. I got so plum tired out working that I had to stop. Can you imagine me in such a state?

Got my second shot of serum today and my headaches and addition to all the other parts of my anatomy. Not the flu itself however?! I'm not going on duty until I feel rested a bit that serum didn't like me.

We have had the warmest fall but unpleasant because of so much rain. Flu is raging fierce now in all Range Towns. Duluth had to send to Chicago for nurses.

Will you be home for Christmas? I'm not going unless Dad so desires to see me that he feels it worth paying my car fare. Of course I'd like to see the kids but I have gotten to the stage in the game now where I've got to look out for myself. Trip would cost me forty dollars not counting necessary clothes and Christmas presents and then where am I? It's always pleasant enough for the first few days and after that what? I never have any fun in M. C. and I'd be better off saving my money for next summer when I have three months to look after myself. I am reconciled to the fact that I am going to be here Christmas so that helps lots. Edythe is bound I am going home with her but that wouldn’t appeal to me if her man is having his furlough at that time.

I never did get an answer to my letter to Kae so I take it she wasn't very crazy about hearing from me. How about your luck?

I changed my room all around today and gosh looks quite respectable like. Edythe and I are dying to room together and then we’d to take some interest in fixing things up a bit.

I sent Bob's big picture down to Duluth to have it framed. Haven't you got a real good picture of yourself to send to me?

Must close now and answer some of my letters.

Doesn't seem to me you write very often.

Heaps much love,
Leone
