Dear Brother
Don't you love my ?? varieties of staionary. This is however so deceiving to JE's eye. Just wrote Kelly Schweck a letter. Certainly was a messy sounding affair but nevertheless the three ??? is on so go it must.
I went to open the gate this noon and plunked it back against the right side of my anatomy and I ain't feeling so well.
Well we are keeping house that is, at it. Laura and Gladys decided they'd take a try until something is done about our board so we take turns about. Edythe and I cooks one day and do all the dishes and the next day we are ladies. I nearly die laughing. Last night Edythe caught her food on the leg of the table and over went the mashed potatoes, ca-plunk on the floor. We are used to hairs tho, that doesn't bother us any. We had the best steak & gravy and salad. Seem's good to have regular home cooking even tho it is a messy lot of work.
Tomorrow Edythe and I are going to Duluth. Quite extravagant but Edythe has to take a life insurance exam and I told her I'd go with her. I'm going to have my hair shampooed in a regular way.
I have a check down in the Office for keeping Assembly. Don't you love it? Gee I'll bet you never realized before how valuable these letters are you are getting from me.
I ran across a letter that Bid wrote me just before school started. Might be interesting to read so will enclose it.
I don't have classes on Friday p.m. and I'm so sleepy I'm going to the Rest Room and take a snooze. Am glad today is Friday - not that I do anything during the week but I like to see time fly.
Got a letter from Dad yesterday. You can well imagine the news - corn, politics, blues (flues?), war, health, etc.
I'm happy in spite of it. I have been kidding myself quite a bit.
Don, have you ever read "Dere Mabel" a Rookie's love letter to his sweet heart. If you haven't I want to send one to you. It's rich.
Write often.
Heaps of love
Leone

Dear Leone,
I'm at home and on the look out for a job. I have applications in at Hampton, Ia, Waukesha, Wis, and Centerville, Ia. I'd like to get in at Centerville cause Spence teaches math there. I'll have to leave Sat. if I get any of these jobs and I'm scared to death to teach. I'll sure have to bluff. If I don't get a teaching job I'm going to take Civil Service exams and go to Washington with Lukee her husband P.J. is in France. Maury is at Ft. Monroe Virginia & the poor kid has had to have an operation for hernia so has been in the hospital 3 weeks. He thinks he can get a 10 day furrlough [sic] the middle of Sept and come home. I'm sure planning on it. I'm wild to see him.
I'm surprised you expected me up this summer. You didn't answer my last letter and of course I wouldn't go without an invitation. I though you felt like you should as me just because I wrote about that job at the hotel so I didn't think anything about going.
Peanut and Prof drove through here this summer & stopped to see me a minute. Peanut hasn't changed a bit. She had diamonds clear to her knuckles so I decided they must be prospering.
The Turney girls have lived with us all summer and Feed & F have been home so we have had a house full & lots of fun. Turneys have had their car here. Kae is still taking a business course & expects to get a gov't job some time before Xmas. Poor old F had just a months vacation & she sure hated to go back to work.
Write to me at Fairfield and it will be forwarded to me. I'll write and tell you all about my trials of teaching.
Lots of love,
Bid
