Note the paper as proof that I am not writing this at school!

Your fancy method of leave taking is becoming quite familiar. This being the third time you have taken French leave so to speak!

I'd have been surprised than otherwise to have found you when I returned.

The sad news that there isn't even a ray of hope of your coming back is almost too much and then coupled to that the blow that Mr. Hjort [sic] is! He was back for a while and by unanimous consent admittedly a bigger bore than ever, and that's a ???? statement.

Howard came home yesterday. I haven't seen him yet and haven't heard whether its a furlough or discharge.

Eloise ?usted in society with Mr. Markwood at an Elks dance. Lucille and I are wasting our time going to movies. In my old age I seem to enjoy them.

School is as ever - and no prospect of any change. I saw your very cunning young niece dining down town the other night. The first I've had seen her.

Doris has landed in Merrimac Mass. & I expect to meet Lois soon. Lois sent me a very</v> good looking picture of her self.
